Clabane - We Love African Skin

We Love African Skin

Clabane loves African skin. But perhaps even more importantly, we understand it. Our products are created with a focus on nourishing and protecting this type of skin.

One of the most obvious identifiers of African skin is the melanin. #melanin and #melaninpoppin are fairly common across the socials. But did you know that white skin also has melanin? And that there are 2 types of melanin? Eumelanin is found more in people with darker skin, while pheomelanin is more in people with lighter skin.

This same beautiful melanin which is responsible for the dark pigment can behave in strange ways. An overproduction can lead to patches of skin that are darker than the surrounding areas. This is what is called hyperpigmentation and it is more prevalent and noticeable in black skin. Products that are not designed with African skin in mind may not be as adept at managing hyperpigmentation as those that are.

Luckily, Clabane is focused on African skin. One of the products that we created to tackle hyperpigmentation safely and effectively is the Clabane repair and refine pigment correcting serum. Among other ingredients, it has bacterial ferment which helps to remove dead skin and Glycerin which helps to soften and moisturise skin.

African Skin and the Sun

One of the best things about African skin is that eumelanin gives some protection against the sun. But only some, about SPF 13 to be exact. By comparison, white skin has about SPF 3. Doctors however recommend SPF 30 for everyone so we still need to wear sunscreen to protect skin against skin cancer.

A sunscreen with SPF 50 or SPF 30 will give your beautiful skin the required protection.

As we said in the beginning, we love African skin and not just the skin on your face. This love also covers the whole body. Not to toot our own horn, but as further evidence of that, we have come up with the Clabane organics body butter with SPF 30 to protect your skin from head to toe. It comes in a 300ml package so you know it will last you a while annnndd it comes in coconut and mango; which brings us to the next point.

Natural ingredients which love African skin

Clabane uses natural ingredients and there are particular ones that give African skin that extra support. They include: Aloe vera, Argan oil, Shea butter and Moringa

  • Aloe vera can be found in the Clabane organics acne bar
  • Argan oil can be found in the Natural skin care oil
  • Shea butter can be found in the Eczema care moisturising cream
  • Moringa can be found in the Foaming mousse cleanser

Does African skin age?

Black don’t crack, black don’t age. All true… but within reason. African skin is blessed with a moderately thicker dermis (the middle layer of the skin). Your dermis contains collagen which is known to aid in keeping skin looking youthful for longer.

Having a thicker dermis doesn’t mean you should just do nothing for your skin. You can support it at any age by drinking enough water, wearing sunscreen and moisturising. Here are some of our products that can help you out with that.

  • The protect and renew face moisturizer with ingredients like Hyaluronic and Polyglutamic acid.
  • The refine and glow body milk with Shea butter and Almond oil.
  • The Gentle foaming Mousse cleanser with Glycerin and Moringa.
